Registration of industrial designs in Armenia – Every company that owns an industrial design and intends to expand its business in the Armenian market should use the Armenia intellectual property system. It is paramount for businesses to file an industrial design application in Armenia for industrial designs, even if the launch of the respective product on the market in Armenia has not yet commenced.
Requirements for industrial design registration application in Armenia
An industrial design application in Armenia requesting the right of priority must be filed within 6 months from the priority date. This period cannot be extended.
The official language when registering an industrial design at the Armenia Intellectual Property Office is Armenian. Design applications may be filed in any language; however, a translation into Armenia must be submitted within 3 months from the date of filing.
The following information and documents need to be provided in the application for registration of an industrial design in Armenia:
- name, address, and nationality of the applicant, business address;
- proof that the respective fees have been paid;
- design drawings.
A Power of Attorney must be submitted within 60 days of filing. There is no need to legalize or notarize this document.
If priority is requested, a certified copy of the priority document must be submitted within 9 months of the priority date.
Examination of an industrial design application in Armenia
The formal examination of an industrial design registration application in Armenia must be carried out within 60 days from the date of filing. The state-authorized body shall conduct a substantive examination of the application within 3 months from the publication date of the application.
Validity period and renewal of industrial designs in Armenia
The renewal period for the novelty of an industrial design in Armenia is one year before the priority date, and the information is disclosed by the designer (applicant), or a third party who directly or indirectly obtained information on the industrial design.

An international applicant for an industrial design registration in Armenia should perform an industrial design search in Armenia through a law firm, or an industrial design attorney.
