PETOŠEVIĆ

Firm's Overview

PETOŠEVIĆ PETOŠEVIĆ is a wholly owned network of firms known for providing intellectual property and related services throughout the region commonly referred to as Eastern Europe. Today this region is a mix of EU jurisdictions, non-EU Balkan countries, and countries of the Russian-speaking region. We are a full-service IP firm with over 120 people (out of which 50+ lawyers and 30+ IP agents) working in 16 officesAlbania, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The network’s governing entity is in Luxembourg. PETOŠEVIĆ works with an exclusive representative in Brussels. In total we cover more than 30 jurisdictions as we also work through affiliated offices in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo (UNSCR 1244), Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Slovak Republic, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Our attorneys and IP agents are well-respected local IP experts and are supported by a team of experienced and multilingual paralegal and administrative staff. They are praised for consistently providing quick, reliable and easily comprehensible service to our clients. Over the last 30+ years it has become clear that the quality of IP services in Eastern Europe and the Russian-speaking region is, generally speaking, below the West European level. Most of the local firms grew out of IPR prosecution-only based businesses, focusing on administrative, mainly patent-related procedures and related translations. Understandably, they comparatively lack experience in IPR enforcement and providing complex legal advice to foreign IP right holders. Large western firms, which are built on substantive practice and case law, have, more or less, successfully entered the largest and most lucrative markets in Eastern Europe, leaving a significant gap in the smaller countries and covering the larger regions only partially. We at PETOŠEVIĆ believe that the blend of Western well-established practices and best local practices established by the local courts and practitioners is the best way to cover these existing gaps. While providing IPR protection services throughout our region for major companies from Western Europe, United States and other developed countries, we employed individuals who have been educated and worked in the West, and who now train our staff on bringing Western standards to less developed and sophisticated jurisdictions. Our people are clearly the foundation of success at PETOŠEVIĆ. Over the last three decades we created many jobs and helped young people develop their careers in IP in some of the poorest regions of Europe. We are an equal opportunity employer and we frequently support trainings for our employees abroad. Knowledge exchange is a crucial principle without which we would not be able to offer a uniform quality of services for so many jurisdictions. We also like to think of ourselves as one team of people spread out over 16 jurisdictions, rather then 16 separate offices linked together. Results at all costs – this is not our approach. We offer complete legal analysis of every situation, estimate the probability of success and remain realistic depending on the circumstances of the jurisdiction where advice is sought. We provide innovative and creative solutions and explore the legislative landscape to the maximum. We also have a very strict anti-corruption policy within the firm and all PETOŠEVIĆ employees are obliged to sign a corresponding statement when joining. Today we are known as a regional firm that serves a diverse mix of clients, from individuals to world’s leading corporations, most of which work directly with PETOŠEVIĆ. The majority of our clients require our services at a regional level, from a few to over 30 countries. In addition to this, PETOŠEVIĆ has built a reputation of a European IP firm that successfully handles trademark and design filings and related issues before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) at competitive prices. These services are primarily provided for East European clients in their local languages, but also for clients from other parts of the world. For several of our corporate clients, we coordinate their worldwide IPR portfolios.
