China granted 59,000 patents for integrated circuit layout designs in ten-year period

As of the end of September, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has given a total of 59,000 integrated circuit layout-design certificate patents. The nation is now ranked 11th in the global innovation index for 2022, up from 34th in 2012.

The CNIPA approved 3.953 million patents between 2012 and 2021, with an average annual growth rate of 13.8%. The CNIPA allowed 35.56 million registered trademarks in total, with a 25.5 percent average annual growth rate.

The Chinese mainland has 2,495 geographical indications, 41.52 million available trademark registrations, and 3.154 million innovation-related patents as of the end of September.

With national IP import and export royalties reaching 2.19 trillion yuan ($307.76 billion) from 2012 to 2021 and an annual growth rate of 13.7%, the development of intellectual property (IP) has contributed to China’s economic growth.

The average growth rate of IP royalty exports was 31.2 percent, which was approximately 20 percentage points higher than the growth rate of imports.

China’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index 2022 increased to 11th place from 34th place in 2012 thanks to its expanding innovation performance, placing it first among the medium- to high-income nations.

The Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou cluster in South China and the Beijing cluster in North China are two of the world’s top five scientific and technology clusters, respectively.
